Taxes: check!

So, I received my W-2 form for my taxes on Saturday. I’d received everything else in the past week or two, too. My tax guy actually died back in October, so I couldn’t go to him…but he’d caused me some problems over the years, so that’s just as well.

However, my Dad has used TaxSlayer.com for years now and has always had great things to say. TaxSlayer sends your tax data to the IRS electronically, AND they send summaries of W-2s and all other forms you received, so you don’t even have to mail anything in to the Federal Government or your state government! It sounded too good to be true…

So I paid the $9.95 and filed both federal and state electronically. Then I awoke this morning to a “Tax return accepted by the IRS” email…it worked! Now I should receive my federal refund by February 16th! So, my taxes will have gone from filed to refund deposited in just under two weeks! Amazing!

So, pretty wild. I’d recommend TaxSlayer.com to anybody!

Been a while…

Well, it’s been a while since I last posted, so here I am. As you may know, my wedding is only a few weeks away, so we’ve been busy with last minute planning and such for that. I’m ready for the cruise, though. I picked up the documentation on it yesterday, and we have a room with a balcony! So, that’s pretty cool. I need a vacation.

New York’s finally been hit with winter, after the longest time without snow for like…100+ years. Still, though, I’m looking forward to getting out of here in the coming months. We’re planning a house hunting trip down to Atlanta during the first week of April, so that’s the big thing to tackle post-wedding. We got pre-approved for a mortgage and all, so we’re all set on the house front…more or less.

Anyways, that’s all for now! Oh, I’m also planning some presentations for the coming months, so maybe I’ll be seen on the conference circuit or at least in phparch.

Happy Holidays!

It’s been a while since I’ve written, so I figured the holidays were a good reason to fire up the ol’ WordPress admin.

Nothing new here; things at Schematic are great, as usual. I’m home in Kansas City for the holidays, but Felicia’s coming out after Christmas.

Only another few weeks ’till the wedding, too…sweet. But just saying “Hello” to the like…one reader of my blog, so happy holidays, everyone!

WordPress switcher

I wasn’t thrilled with Blogger.com, so I switched to WordPress tonight. Not too shabby thus far; grabbed a checkout from their Subversion trunk for the latest and greatest. We’ll see how this goes…

Atlanta, here we come!

This weekend, we’re going to head to Atlanta to explore the city and get the lay of the land. The company I work for, Schematic, is opening an office down there in the coming months. Personally, I’m tired of paying rent, riding the subway to work, etc., etc. I’d like to buy a house, drive to work, have a dog and so on…things that are pretty hard to come by in the boroughs of NYC. To do these things, we’d have to move to, say, Jersey, or even Westchester, and buy an old, expensive house for way more than we’d want to pay. Even saving up for the down payment would take another few years for such a house.

So, that’s where Atlanta comes in. Affordable housing, mild winters (and hot summers!), and a generally normal, enjoyable life…or so we think. We’ll find out this weekend when we spend a few days down there. We’d like to see a real estate agent just to see some houses and discuss potential areas to house hunt.

But, fingers crossed! We’ll see what our maiden voyage to Atlanta brings. We’ll be embarking on the 14 hour drive Friday morning, aiming to return Tuesday. It’s gonna’ be awesome!

UPDATE: Pictures are here.
